Audience Feedback - focus group

Now that each of our three ancillary task productions have reached completion, it is now necessary to collect feedback from members of our target audience. Discussing suitability of methods, again we decided to conduct a focus group who we would present our products to and then ask a series of questions to find out their opinions. It will be useful for us to get an idea of what they think of them, as in order for a production to be successful it should fulfill its purpose of appealing to the intended audience. Elements which we will be assessing include each product's conventionality, visual appeal and how understandable and appealing the narrative is etc. We believe a focus group is an effective way to gather feedback as we have access to students within our year (sixth form) of mixed gender, and therefore we can avoid bias and obtain a range of opinions from unique individuals. As we believe our production possesses an appeal to both genders, it is appropriate that we have several males featuring also. This shall allow us to evaluate how successful our products were.

Focus group questions

As a group, we compiled this list of questions to propose to the members of our focus group in order to find out their opinion on key elements of our products. These will effectively guide the nature of the responses whilst not putting words into their mouths, resulting in results of high quality.

4)      When viewing the product, which emotions did it evoke within you?

Evaluation Questions

Q1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real life products?

Q2) How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Q3) What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Q4) How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Developing my use of technology in the future

To incorporate more new media techniques in the creation of my production in the future, I could go further and take advantage of the accessibility to generate greater interest in the release of my film. For example, we could create an account on Twitter with the purpose of promoting the film and interacting with fans. I think this would be the most effective way to target our audience; being the young generation (of whom many are digital natives) who are known to use these sites excessively.
